The Oxford English Dictionary is the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium. For each word in the OED, the various groupings of senses are dealt with in chronological order according to the quotation evidence, i.e. the senses with the earliest quotations appear first, and the senses which have developed more recently appear further down the entry. Welcome to the mIRC Beta

The mIRC Beta is a version of mIRC that is not yet ready for public use and is being made available for testing purposes only. We need feedback to resolve any issues in the beta before we can release a final, stable version of mIRC for public use.

The latest version of the beta is mIRC v7.02 released on May 1st 2010 and works on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7.

The mIRC Unicode Project

The aim of the mIRC Unicode Project has been to convert mIRC into a Unicode application. You can learn about the project, and download the beta, below.

What is Unicode? Unicode is a universal character set that can display all of the characters in all written human languages.

Unicode was not in wide use when mIRC was first created, so mIRC did not use it. However over the last decade Unicode has become increasingly important and most new applications are now designed with Unicode in mind, so it was important for mIRC to be converted to Unicode to keep pace with technology.

What is the current status of the project? An enormous amount of work has already been completed and has reached the stage where a public beta is ready for testing.

The project to convert mIRC to Unicode has taken the better part of a year and has required tens of thousands of changes to 150,000+ lines of source code.

This has been the most complex and time-consuming update to mIRC since it was created in 1995, when it started out as a non-Unicode, 16-bit, Windows 3.1 application.

Many areas of mIRC have had to be updated or re-written, from file handling to text processing, from display to memory allocation, from server communications to file transfers.

mIRC should now be faster, more stable, and more compatible with the latest versions of Windows, and should be able to better handle the display and input of a variety of languages.

The Beta

What is the purpose of the beta? We need feedback and bug reports to resolve any issues in the new Unicode version of mIRC.

Although the beta has been through a few months of internal testing, there have been so many changes that we feel it needs wider testing to ensure that it is stable.

Once we have received enough feedback and are happy with the way the beta is performing, we will release a final, stable version of mIRC for public use.

Can the beta use files and settings from an older version of mIRC? Yes, it can, but...

Like all new versions of mIRC, the beta makes changes to the way some items are stored in the mirc.ini file that are not compatible with older versions of mIRC.

You should not run the beta from the same folder as another version of mIRC as they will interfere with each other.

If you want to use files and settings from an older version of mIRC, you should copy them to a new empty folder and then install the beta in that folder.

Is the beta compatible with existing scripts? Yes, it should be, but...

While a lot of effort has gone into making the Unicode version of mIRC compatible with scripts from previous versions of mIRC, it is likely that some will not work correctly. For example:

Scripts that display characters from language-specific codepages, or perform utf-8 conversions, may not display the text that you expect, since mIRC is now a Unicode application.

Scripts that use DLLs that interact with mIRC by manipulating the interface, or other low level interaction, may need to be updated to take into*** the fact that mIRC is now a Unicode application.

Scripts that convert between binary and character data may need to be updated, since Unicode applications store characters in two bytes as opposed to one.

The only way to know whether your script will work is to test it out to see whether it behaves as you expect.

Are there any new features? The aim of this project was to convert mIRC to Unicode, a major undertaking in itself. There are, however, a few other notable changes:

Improved Windows 7 compatibility - More reliable INI file handling - Faster text display/scrolling - Speech support - Improved interface design for a number of features - Automatic color correction - Menubar ALT key show/hide feature - Support for italic text and other font styles - Optimized SSL routines - Status window SSL connection icon - IPv6 support - Improved portable support - Persistent channel history - Digitally signed executables - Auto-split long channel/private messages - Many bug fixes - And more.

You can find a full list of changes and fixes in the versions.txt file that comes with the beta.

How should I install the beta? Ideally you should install it as a Portable Application.

When you run the beta installer, you should enable the Run as Portable Application option and install mIRC to a new empty folder. This will ensure that it does not affect any of your other mIRC files and settings.

This option adds the item portable=yes to the [about] section of the mirc.ini file, which is new to this version.

Which Windows versions are supported? Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7.

* Sharing folders

* PC-to-phone calls

In the US, this feature is supported by Verizon, branded as "Verizon Web Calling". Orange France also has a similar service. This feature is only available in selected countries, including the US, the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Ireland, Finland, Belgium, Spain, and Italy.
* Windows Live Messenger to Yahoo!
This allows Yahoo! and Windows Live Messenger users to chat (using text or voice) to each other without the need to create an account on the other service, provided both contacts use the latest versions of the clients. However, if a user uses an older or third-party client, they will appear offline to the users on the other network.
* Offline messaging
Unlike previous versions, one can start conversations even when his or her status is set to Appear Offline, similar to behaviour in Yahoo! Messenger. If talking to someone who has an older MSN Messenger client, they will lose the ability to talk to you after a short period of no activity, due to their client thinking you are offline. As Windows Live Messenger has now been made available on several phones, a new trend has appeared where people send messages over Windows Live Messenger to each other as a way to have free SMS text messages.
* Games and applications
There are various games and applications available in Windows Live Messenger that can be accessed via the conversation window by clicking the games icon and challenging your "buddy".
* i'm initiative
The i'm initiative is a new program Microsoft launched in March 2007, that connects the user with nine organizations dedicated to social causes through Windows Live Messenger. Every time someone has a conversation using i'm, Microsoft Corp. shares a portion of the program's advertising revenue with the organization of the user's choice. There is no set cap on the amount donated to each organization. The more i'm conversations the user has; the more money goes to one of the nine causes. Each participating organization is guaranteed a minimum donation of $100,000 during the first year of the program. There is currently no end date for the program. The i'm initiative only works with the most recent WLM version 8.1 and 8.5 beta. The i'm initiative is currently only available to those in the United States.
* Xbox 360
Windows Live Messenger support was included in the Xbox 360 Spring 2007 dashboard update released on May 9, 2007. Unofficially, it is known as Windows Live Messenger 360.
Those using Windows Live Messenger are able to see the Gamertags of friends logged into Xbox Live, including the Game they are playing. Xbox 360 users can chat in-game (or while watching a movie). Although only text chat is supported, Microsoft has suggested that voice and video chatting may come in a future update.

Although the WordPress installation is much easier than most people realize, you will save yourself a lot of frustration if you take some time to prepare first.

If you can host multiple domains with your hosting company, I recommend using a totally separate domain for your blog. At the very least you will need a subdomain.
Verify that your web hosting company supports the following programs.

PHP version 4.2 or greater
MySQL version version 4.0 or greater
The Apache mod_rewrite module

You must also have an FTP program of some sort for uploading your files. This will also allow us to change permission on files as needed
I fully recommend using a hosting company that uses a Linux based server. This may also be listed as Unix or Apache. I do not recommend using a Windows based server.
If you are unsure of the server used by your hosting company, you can determine this by doing a header check of your domain. Insert the URL of your site and click submit. The information returned will include the server type.
If your server does not support or provide the features you need to effectively run your online business, you should seriously consider moving to a reliable hosting company that will meet all of your business needs both now, and in the future
I personally use and fully recommend 1and1 Hosting Services. They also allow you to host multiple domains in one account without increasing your hosting fees.

Getting Started with MySQL

Setup your MySQL database from within your control panel, or in some cases you will need to contact your host to set it up. SAVE the following information:

Database Name
User Name
Password
Host Name

Download and Configure WordPress

Download the WordPress directory from wordpress.org to your desktop where you can easily find it. The file will need to be unzipped in order to access the files.

Once you have downloaded and unzipped WordPress, we will need to make a few changes BEFORE uploading the files.

Inside the WordPress folder is a file named wp-config-sample. Change that file name to wp-config.

Open the same file that you just renamed. Within that file you will see the following:

We will be changing some of this information to include your data base information.

Insert Your MySQL Database Information

When you previously set up the MySQL database you would have been provided with the following information:

The name of the database
The MySQL database username
The password of the database
The database host (in some cases)

We need to change the default information in the wp-config to include your information. The following will cover those changes line by line. Do not remove the single quotes.

Change the highlighted area of the line above to the actual name of your database that you were given when you set up the database.

define('DB_USER', 'username'); // Your MySQL username

Change the highlighted area above to the username you were given when you set up the database.

define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password'); // ...and password

Change the highlighted area of the line above to the password you were given when you set up the database.

define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // chance you won't need to change.

If you were given information for the database host, you will likely need to change the highlighted area of the line above to the data you were given when you set up the database. If you were not given this information it is very likely you can leave this set to localhost.

Once you have completed the above, SAVE the changes you have made.

Upload WordPress Files

Using your FTP program, upload all of the files from within the WordPress folder. You will upload these files to the directory you have previously selected for your blog. Only upload the files INSIDE the WordPress folder. DO NOT upload the folder itself.

I personally use WS_FTP Pro. However, it is not a free program. If you need an FTP program available at no cost, you may want to consider FileZilla.

Begin the WordPress Installation

To begin the WordPress installation, you will need to run the WordPress installation script by accessing the wp-admin/install.php file from your browser window.

Example: http://www.madeupsite.com/wp-admin/install.php

In the address bar of your browser window, enter the URL of the domain or subdomain where you uploaded the WordPress files to, followed by: wp-admin/install.php

A new window will open. Click First Step >>

When you click the First Step link, another new window will open.

Enter the name you have selected for your blog.
Enter your email address and double check it before continuing.
Place a check in the box for I would like my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Technorati. (This is important!)
Click "Continue to Second Step".

Once you have followed the instructions on each new window, your blog will be created automatically for you. Make sure to save the user name and password provided.

How to safely remove the installed Aktivator
First, go into Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View:
1) Remove the checkmark from the item Hide extensions for known file types.
2) Put a tick on the item Show hidden files, folders and disks and click OK.
Then perform the following steps:
1. Stop the Protection of software sppsvc. Login to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Find a service protection software, right-click on it and if the service is running click Stop.
2. Find 2 hidden files in C: \ Windows \ System32 with the extension. C7483456-A289-439d-8115-601632D005A0 and delete them. If the service was sppsvc nezapushena in clause 1, it will automatic start and not give the opportunity to remove them. In this case, repeat 1 point.
3. Start the service protection software sppsvc.
